Over the Rhine Artist Center

Project Brief

Two artists are coming to Over the Rhine in Cincinnati for a residency program. One is SWOON (Caledonia Curry), a street artist, while the other is Karen Morris, a milliner. They need spaces to both live and work, as well as a gallery to display their work and engage the community.

Concept

The common thread between these two very different artists is their focus on art popping out of everyday life—a concept I was able to materialize by taking ordinary planes and shifting and flipping them into a dynamic, sculptural forms. This is reflected in the interior gallery space and continues out to the facade.

Facade Design

I arranged the facade in a way that allows plenty of northern light into the artists' studio space with a wall of windows. Clerestory windows in the gallery allow light in while still providing large amounts of wall space for artwork.
